 Words of Encouragement

"I am the vine and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit: for you can do nothing without me. Those who do not remain in me are thrown out like a branch and dry up; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, where they are burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, then you will ask for anything you wish, and you shall have it. My Father's glory is shown by you bearing much fruit; and in this way you become my disciples. I love you just as the Father loves me; remain in my love."

St. John 15:5-9 (Good News Translation)

KEEP DRIVING

A lady was driving along with her father.
They came upon a storm, and the young lady asked her father, What should I do?"

He said "keep driving"..  Cars began to pull over to the side, the storm was getting worse.

"What should I do." The young lady asked?
"Keep driving," her father replied.

On up a few feet, she noticed that eighteen wheelers were also pulling over.  She told her dad, "I must pull over, I can barely see ahead.  It is terrible, and everyone is pulling over!"

Her father told her, "Don't give up, just keep driving!"

Now the storm was terrible, but she never stopped driving, and soon she could see a little more clearly. After a couple of miles she was again on dry land, and the sun came out.

Her father said, "Now you can pull over and get out."

She said "But why now?"

He said "When you get out, look back at all the people that gave up and are still in the storm,
because you never gave up your storm is  now over.

This is a testimony for anyone who is going through "hard times".

Just because everyone else, even the strongest, gives up.
You don't have to...if you keep going,
soon your storm will be over and the sun will shine upon your face again.

Never give up, because GOD will never give up on you!

"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me!"

Two parcels of land gifted to Big Bethel

Heirs of Herman Lynch and Benjamin Lynch donate land

Submitted by Trustee Larry Goodwyn

Back in early March of 2020, I received a packet of information and a cover letter from Gammiel Gray Poindexter Attorney At Law stating that she was representing the heirs of brothers Herman and Benjamin Lynch who owned two parcels land which were adjacent to existing church property. Given that the two brothers were now deceased, and the families involved lived away in other states, they wanted to know if the church would be interested in receiving this gift. One can only imagine how excited I was about this and could not wait to contact the Pastor and the Officers of the church. Following discussion in our Joint Board meeting, and a unanimous vote to move forward, we began the legal process.

With the legal requirements satisfied and all documents recorded in the Dinwiddie Circuit Court, the Pastor and Church Officers are pleased to have taken possession of the gifted land on October 13, 2020.

We will be forever grateful to the heirs of Herman and Benjamin Lynch. The Big Bethel Baptist Church Family would like to publicly thank the heirs and owners: Mrs. Reginia A. Shelton, Mrs. Sharon H. Palmer, Mr. Tommy Lynch, and Mr. Raymond A. Jorsling.

There will be a formal dedication event of this gift at some point in the future.

"Keep Looking Up"

2021 Annual Fund Raiser – different in so many ways, but we are still blessed.

Submitted by Trustee Larry Goodwyn

Our 2020 fund raising efforts were disrupted early in the year by a life altering circumstance that changed everything we do including worshiping and gathering as a church family. Yes, Covid-19 crept into our mists and caused the church doors to be closed for month after month and it is still challenging our lives daily.  What we as a church family have chosen to do while countering the negative effect of this pandemic, is turn inward and develop a closer walk with our God and Father.  Here is what we realized – WE ARE STILL BLESSED!

Although we did not generate the same dollars as in previous years, we still did well. Our goal for 2021 is to continue receiving mail in donations and honoring God through our obedience to give. If the God we serve says so, we will get back on track and complete Phase II of our building project soon.

The Pastor and the church leadership would like to thank all those who continue to bless this branch of Zion with their generous support.  Our theme for 2021 will be “Keep Looking Up” and we will continue to give back $1.00 per day for each day that God has blessed us with.  Our goal this year is $10,000.00.

Pastors Anniversary

Big Bethel Baptist Church celebrates twelve years of pastor and people

With many of our local churches only having online services to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it was challenging for Big Bethel Baptist Church members to celebrate pastor appreciations.

Church members, leaders, and first responders came together for Pastor Williams with a drive-thru parade Saturday, September 19th, to celebrate his 12th anniversary as Pastor of Big Bethel Baptist Church.

Usually, the Pastor's Aide would typically have a service to celebrate the Pastor, but we decided to have a drive-thru to keep everyone safe due to the pandemic.

Our Pastor has stood tall during the pandemic, however as his assistant; I utterly understand the toll the pandemic has taking on the Pastor because he misses the congregation.

We know that "It hurt him a little bit that he can't see the congregation face-to-face, so we just wanted to encourage him and tell him that he not forgotten.

Know that to see so many we hadn't seen in six months put a smile on his face. So we say to those who participated and those that sent monetary gifts, thank you so very much for your support. Plans are in the works for another celebration for the Pastor when we start having services at the church. Just in case you would like to continue to support your Pastor, please send all donations to the church address marked Pastor's Aide.   Thank you and to God be the Glory.

Cemetery Rally

Big Bethel Burial Park

Submitted By: Carol Jones

The Cemetery is a particular part of our church ministry. Upkeep and maintenance of the grounds and surrounding acres are a significant part of our budget. We want to thank all members and families who contributed to our 2020 cemetery rally. Our rally will take place on the 4th Sunday in March 2021.

Anyone with a loved one buried in the Cemetery, we are asking that you, please be a blessing to this rally with a donation of your choice. We will continue to take care of our Cemetery correctly, and we pray God’s continued blessings on all of you.
