 Words of Encouragement

"I am the vine and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit: for you can do nothing without me. Those who do not remain in me are thrown out like a branch and dry up; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, where they are burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, then you will ask for anything you wish, and you shall have it. My Father's glory is shown by you bearing much fruit; and in this way you become my disciples. I love you just as the Father loves me; remain in my love."

St. John 15:5-9 (Good News Translation)

Dates to Remember

Praise Dance Ministry

Greetings from the Big Bethel Youth Ministry....

The Youth Ministry of Big Bethel Baptist Church initiated and participated in  numerous activities in 2016.  The Youth Ministry  sponsored Joy Night. Joy Night was a vision of Reverend Williams in which the community would come together one Friday night in each month to praise the Lord. We were blessed to have guests such as the Black Awakening Choir from VCU, Zion Voices of Richmond, and recording artist Cora Harvey Armstrong.  The Joy Night was a tremendous success. They also sponsored several fundraisers, which help to fund the trip to Hershey Park this summer.

Exalted Praise Dancers continued to let their light shine in 2016.  Exalted Praise has had many invitations to perform at various churches and events in the area.    On September 24, 2016, Exalted Praise participated in the video production for “Stand Up” by Jerrell “J-Rock” Golden, who blessed Big Bethel for its first Joy Night.  Stand Up is an inspirational record that encourages unity, love and for all to stand up against gun violence and discrimination.  The video was shot at the State Capitol in Richmond.

Also, on November 13, 2016, Exalted Praise celebrated their 2nd Year Anniversary.  We were delighted at the overflowing crowd that came out in support of the event. The BBBC Youth Choir participated in the program and was honored as well. The program was a great success. We would like to thank everyone for their support and we look forward to  success and blessings as we continue to exalt the name of Jesus in 2017.

2017 Fund Raiser

Fantastic Job! - “Journey of Faith” was our fund raising theme for this past year, which generated nearly  $13,000.00.  We really did a fantastic job and once again this event was very successful.  The Pastor and the Official Boards are very proud of this accomplishment.

The proceeds from this annual event go toward the upkeep and beautification of the church building and grounds. With your continued financial support and prayers we will be paying our outstanding parking lot project loan down in $10,000.00 increments.

The Pastor and the event sponsors would like to thank all those who continue to bless this branch of Zion with your generous support.

We are thrilled to begin another year of giving and we are looking forward with much excitement as we step out on God’s Promise as we prepare for our 2017 fund raising event. Our theme will be “A New Beginning”    $1.00 per day from each of you for 365 days is all it takes!  Our goal this year is $15,000.00 .

A Place to Belong

Submitted by: Minister Jessica Moragn

Eph 2:19-22 describes the family of God as a household where people can belong. If we are to be truly honest with ourselves, many of us have asked at one time where do I belong in the Body of Christ? And because we have loss that connection, or relationship, we have loss fellowship with God.

A person’s relationship with Jesus will change their attitude about everything. They will no longer desire worldly things. But unless they are conditioned to express, share and act on spiritual desires it will be difficult for them to transform these habits that transform their personalities.

One reason it takes so long to change is because we have to recondition our thinking by applying it with new ways of acting. In time these new actions become habits and then become part of our personality.

Belonging means you are not alone.  Being all you can be requires the help of others. We can develop that interdependence in the family of God.

That interdependence will only come by staying connected to the true vine which is Jesus Christ. John 15:4 states, remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. Our connection to Christ causes his will to become our will, leading us to seek the things that are important in life. It is at that moment when you will discover where you truly belong.

So as we are about to enter into a new year, remember that as you live in a world that often leaves you with the feeling that you have no purpose, that your life has no meaning, that no one cares about you, Jesus is saying stay connected. Apart from him, you can do nothing.  With him you will remain productive. So whenever you are outside and you see some dead branches that have broken off from a tree, let those branches remind you of what you would be without your Savior. You are alive, because you are connected to a living, life-giving Savior!  Remain in him, and you will have a place to belong.

Pastor's Aide Ministry

“On the Move for God: Serving the Man of God” 2017

In accordance with our mission, the Pastor’s Aide Ministry continues to strive to support our Pastor financially, emotionally, and spiritually.  We do this first through much prayer and consecration.  It is the continuous prayers of this ministry and the entire congregation for this man of God and the first family that offers the most support.  We then strive to support him financially as the need arises.  Additionally, we support his participation in workshops, conferences, classes, and other educational endeavors of his choice.  Though this ministry leads all activities and initiatives, each member is responsible for the care and well-being of the Pastor.  The Pastor’s Aide Ministry work together and supports the Pastor on behalf of entire church body.  We believe in the Pastor’s vision and have faith that he is being led by the holy spirit.  We acknowledge the office that he occupies and recognize that he is not just a man, but a man of God.  Lastly, we are working with the understanding that our ultimate goal is to be a blessing to our Good Shepherd, Pastor Alexander L. Williams.

Youth Acheivement

Academic Excellence

The members of the church would like to congratulate all of our young people for achieving academic excellence during the last school year. Each of them have advanced to the next grade and moved one step closer to their ultimate goal. They all were recognized on June 28, 2016.

Lauren Ashley Fields is a 2016 graduate of the Dinwiddie County High School and she has been accepted to Richard Bland College where she will continue her education. Lauren is very active in her church  where she held an office in the Sunday School and also sang in the youth choir. Pictured with Sister Patricia Tucker, Lauren is being presented the BBBC Memorial Scholarship for excellence. Lauren is the sister of Faith and Kirsten Fields, and the niece of Trustee  Geraldine Coleman.

The Pastor and church members would like to congratulate Latoya Bates for her recent completion of all academic requirements for graduation from Richard Bland College. Pictured with Sister Patricia Tucker, Latoya is receiving the BBBC award for that achievement.

Pastor Williams, the Official Boards and members of Big Bethel Baptist Church would like to commend all of our youth on their greatness. Keep Up the Great Work!!!

Usher Ministry

Serving the Lord Step  by Step

Submitted by Carolyn G. Birchette

On April 26, 2016 the BBBC Usher’s Ministry celebrated their 57th Anniversary. Once again we continue to prosper from God’s Blessings under the leadership of our President, Mrs. Nancy Jones and our Vice President, Mr. McKinley Mason.

The Usher Ministry continues fulfilling their numerous engagements and accompanying our Pastor, Rev. Alexander Williams as he travel to various churches in the community and the surrounding counties.

We continue to be financially blessed. Our monetary blessings have allowed our ministry the opportunity to up hold our 2016 financial responsibilities to the church as well as supporting neighboring churches with contributions to their usher’s ministries and other programs.

In our 2016 season, the Usher’s Ministry did not acquire any new members; however we did lose one of our founding members who proved himself to be faithful and dedicated to the Ministry, his church, and his faith. Sadly we endured the death of Trustee Roy Crittendon. Trustee Crittendon served some 37 years in the Usher’s Ministry and 33 of those years were in the role of President. His memories will forever live on and his name will always be associated with the Big Bethel Baptist Church usher Ministry.

We continue to be blessed with our sister in Christ Mrs. Katura Jones assisting us on engagements when ever needed.

The BBBC Usher’s Ministry would like to once again thank Rev Williams, Associate Ministers, Pastor Emeritus Newsome, church members, family and friends for their continual support as we carry out our responsibilities and service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We pray that God will continue to direct our steps as we serve.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delighted in his way” Psalm 37:23

A lady was driving along with her father.
They came upon a storm, and the young lady asked her father, What should I do?"

He said "keep driving"..  Cars began to pull over to the side, the storm was getting worse.

"What should I do." The young lady asked?
"Keep driving," her father replied.

On up a few feet, she noticed that eighteen wheelers were also pulling over.  She told her dad, "I must pull over, I can barely see ahead.  It is terrible, and everyone is pulling over!"

Her father told her, "Don't give up, just keep driving!"

Now the storm was terrible, but she never stopped driving, and soon she could see a little more clearly. After a couple of miles she was again on dry land, and the sun came out.

Her father said, "Now you can pull over and get out."

She said "But why now?"

He said "When you get out, look back at all the people that gave up and are still in the storm,
because you never gave up your storm is  now over.

This is a testimony for anyone who is going through "hard times".

Just because everyone else, even the strongest, gives up.
You don't have to...if you keep going,
soon your storm will be over and the sun will shine upon your face again.

Never give up, because GOD will never give up on them!

"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me!"
